Important Signs of Aging in Dogs

When dogs enter their twilight years, signs of aging gradually creep in or seem to appear overnight. Sometimes, pet owners don’t realize their pet is now in his senior years because the signs are quite subtle. But having an idea about what these signs are and keeping a close eye on your pet can help you notice health issues while they are still in the early stages. Here are some important signs of aging in dogs:

  •  Joint problems can affect a dog’s flexibility and they may have a difficult time getting up or lying down. He may also be uncomfortable staying on his feet. Any signs of joint pain and discomfort should be checked out by your veterinarian.
  • He tends to have more potty breaks throughout the day because they have trouble holding it in. Even if he has been house-trained, there may be potty accidents every now and then. Any sudden change in your pet’s potty habits should be brought to the attention of your veterinarian.
  • Lumps or abnormal growths may start to appear. Early detection is very important especially if the lump ends up being cancerous.
