Tips To Achieve Success In Crate Training

When picking out a crate for your pet, always remember to get one that is spacious enough so he can stand up and turn around, but small enough so there will be no space for your pet to designate a potty area. Being highly social, dogs like to stay in rooms frequented by family members of the pack. So it is a good idea to place the crate in the living room or family room where people usually converge in. The spot must be free from extreme heat or cold drafts. During your pup’s housetraining, place the crate near the exit so it will be easier to get him to the potty area in the yard.

As to the number of hours a dog can comfortably stay inside a crate, puppies and senior dogs should not spend more than 3-4 hours inside because they don’t have full control of their bladder and bowel. On the other hand, adult dogs can comfortably stay inside the crate for 5-6 hours maximum.

Any changes in your pet’s behavior or routine should prompt a consultation with your veterinarian Chattanooga, TN.
