Meeting Your Dog’s Exercise Needs

Exercise is one of the basic needs of dogs. A pet dog will thrive with plenty of opportunities to engage in physical activity. However, dogs differ in the amount of exercise that they will need. There are those that do well with a walk around the block while there are those that need to be taken for long walks or runs at least twice a day. Other factors that can have an influence on how much physical activity they should engage in each day include the dog’s age, breed, and health status. If you are unsure of how much daily exercise your pet should have, do keep a close eye out for signs that your dog is exhausted  such as heavy panting, slowing down, stopping, limping, and in extreme cases, disorientation. When going on outdoor excursions with your canine buddy, be sure to do it during the cooler parts of the day to prevent heat stress or heat stroke, a condition that dogs can easily succumb to when exposed to hot weather.

Weight management of pets is an important issue that you can talk over with your vet Plano, TX.
