Vaccinations and Your Dog

As a puppy, your dog receives a certain amount of protection from disease while nursing his mother’s milk. However, soon after weaning your dog will need vaccinations to ensure he won’t contract a dangerous disease if he is exposed to it. Your community may require certain vaccinations by law so contact your animal control office to understand your responsibilities. Other vaccinations are given to protect your dog if your environment puts him at risk. Vaccinations may be given as a single shot or they may require a series of shots. And all vaccinations require scheduled boosters to ensure continued protection from disease. Don’t skip any vaccinations in a series or boosters. Otherwise your dog could get sick if exposed to disease. Your dog may be cranky after receiving a vaccination and he can be sore at the injection site. For more information and to set up a comprehensive vaccination schedule, contact your Hialeah, FL veterinarian.
