Prevent Your Cat From Chewing Plastic

Your cat might chew on some plastic items, and it is okay. However, some of these items are dangerous for your feline pet. If the plastic item is small, it might get stuck in the mouth and become a choking hazard. The item may also be swallowed, which will then lead to more problems.

When the plastic gets inside the stomach, it might obstruct and prevent food and water to get through. The ingested plastic item might also tear the stomach if there are sharp edges.

The plastic item lodged inside the stomach needs to be removed. The veterinarian can either coax your pet cat to expel the item by vomiting. If this is not possible, the veterinarian might recommend surgery or an endoscopy to remove the said item.

You need to consider whether surgery is a good option since this requires general anesthesia. This anesthesia poses risk to your cat, in some instances. To prevent this from happening in the first place, you could start keeping your cat away from dangerous plastic.

If you have concerns about your pet’s health and/or behavior, make an appointment with your veterinary hospital Davie, FL.
