Protecting Your Pet from Pests

There are a few things that can sideline a pet’s health faster than a pest infestation. Creepy crawlies like fleas, ticks, and parasitic worms (heartworm, roundworm, whipworm, hookworm, etc.) present a real threat to your dog or cat. That’s why it’s important to take some steps to protect your animal friend.

First, keep them on high-quality flea-and-tick control medication and a heartworm preventative. These medications ward off all of the pests that are likely to latch onto your pet. Secondly, take some steps around your home to make it less attractive to pests. Clean up any garbage in your yard, and remove sources of standing water that might attract mosquitoes. (Mosquitoes can transmit heartworms when they bite your pet.) Trim back areas of dense shrubbery or tall grass, as these areas are havens for ticks.
