Way to Treat Hypothyroidism in Dogs like the Belgian Shepherd

Has your dog been diagnosed with hypothyroidism? Do you know what this illness is? Hypothyroidism occurs in medium to large size dogs like the Belgian Shepherd. It usually occurs between the ages of 4 and 10 years old. Although rare it has been known to occur in small breeds. Hypothyroidism is when the thyroid doesn’t produce enough hormones to regulate the metabolism. Your dog may become lethargic, lose or gain weight, shed excessively, develop seizure episodes, brain fog, and even infertility. A veterinarian will need to examine the dog to make a diagnosis. If it is hypothyroidism treatment may include hormone therapy to replace lost hormones, diet changes to decrease fat intake, and medications for long term use. Symptoms may also be treated individually depending on the severity. For instance, creams may be prescribed for skin infections.
