Social Needs of Dogs

One of the essential needs of dogs is companionship. Dogs are naturally social animals. They thrive in a place where they can have social bonding with their owner and other dogs. Dogs deprived of a company may feel physically and emotionally stressed. Social deprivation is also equivalent to denying a dog food, shelter, or medical care. Pet owners need to spend quality time with their pets by having regular playtimes within the day or short walks to the park. Dogs do not feel threatened if they are comfortable with their environment and the people around them. If the pet owner is away, a dog may feel isolated. It is best to have another dog as a company. An adult and a puppy make an ideal match. The older dog serves as a model to the younger one, which helps train a puppy. Some pet owners also arrange regular dog play dates to satisfy pets’ social needs.

If you have concerns about your pet’s health and/or behavior, make an appointment with your veterinary clinic Chesapeake, VA.
